The Design Process

1. Initial Consultation

This takes place in your home.

Meet each other

Walk through of the space

Discuss: client ideas and tastes, budget, timeline, design fees

Gather measurements and take photos

2. Contract

This is sent via email after the initial consultation. It outlines the following details:

Scope of project

Specific services to be performed

Fees and billing

Sales policy

Project begins with receipt of the signed contract and a down payment.

3. Space Planning and Layouts

I do this work in my office using your room measurements (that I have already taken) to graph out your room to scale. Best case scenario for furniture (cabinets, etc.) sizes and placement is then decided and put into the graphed out room using a bird’s eye view so you can see how things will work in the space. You will receive two layout options, unless more are requested.

4. Selections

This is done after the layout for the room is confirmed)

Finishes, paint colors, hard surfaces, flooring, cabinets, light fixtures,

Window coverings

Furniture, rugs, lamps

Accessories and art

5. Appointments

Appointments between designer and client/s occur periodically throughout the design process for the presentation of selections and to collaborate on next steps.

6. Management of project including:

Invoicing/billing and ordering

Sample procurement and returns

Shipping and delivery details

Overseeing placement of new furnishings

Communication with vendors, contractors, installers, delivery people, etc…

Design Fees

Many designers choose to hide their fees.  Lorraine charges $100 an hour. The initial consultation is collected at the time of service in the form of check or cash and the appointment must be a minimum of 1 1/2 hours. If the appointment takes less than that there will be a $150 fee charged regardless.  Trip charges are incurred for anything over 15 miles from the Lorraine Interiors office.

A further explanation of fees will be discussed at the first appointment with a written explanation handed to you so that you will know what to expect.
